Bartlett High School would like to invite you to compete in our Middle School and High School Invitational Forensics Tournament to be held on January 20, 2024. 

Parking and building entrance will be on the back side of the building off Blackwell Street. You can put in 5656 Blackwell Street into GPS to help navigate. There will be no entry from the front of the building on Woodlawn Street.

If you are registering entries in the middle school and high school divisions, please submit them as two separate schools.

Meet Details

High School Events:  Dramatic Interpretation, Duet Improvisation, Duo Interpretation, Extemporaneous Speaking, Humorous Interpretation, Impromptu Speaking, Informative Speaking,  Original Oratory, Poetry, Program of Oral Interpretation, Prose, Storytelling, TV Broadcasting, Congressional Debate, and Public Forum Debate (January topic).

Middle School Events: Declamation, Dramatic Interpretation, Duet Improvisation, Duo Interpretation, Expository, Extemporaneous Speaking, Humorous Interpretation, Impromptu Speaking, Original Oratory, Poetry, Prose, Storytelling, TV Broadcasting, and Public Forum Debate.

Entry Details

THSSDL rules will be followed for all high school events. Duet Improvisation will have five minutes to prep and five minutes to perform.

NSDA rules will be followed for all middle school events with the exception of Poetry and Prose which will have a 5-minute time limit.

Each school can bring unlimited entries in each event. Tripling will be allowed with the exception of competitors in TV, Extemp, Congress, and Public Forum. TV and Extemp competitors will be allowed to double but not in both. Public Forum and Congress will not be allowed to double.

Confirmation

Please note that registration is a TWO-STEP process. Please pre-register on SpeechEase.com before the Pre-Registration Deadline noted in this invitation. This will help us determine the total number of schools attending. Your final registration must be received by the Registration Deadline, Wednesday, January 17.

Fee Schedule

A limited number of hired judges are available at a cost of $25.

Fees

Entry fees are $10.00 per person per entry. There will be a $25 charge for each uncovered judge. Drops/Adds after Friday, January 19 at 6 p.m. will be charged the entry fee plus an additional $10.00 drop fee.

Please make checks payable to Bartlett Theatre and Forensics Boosters (BTFB).

Judging

Please provide 1 judge for every 6 Individual Event entries or fraction thereof and 1 judge for every 2 Public Forum teams. Judges will be expected to be available for the entire competition. Judges must be available all day to count for this requirement and should expect to be asked to judge both middle and high school events. Lunch will be provided for judges.

Judges should bring a device that can connect to the internet since we'll be utilizing online critiques.

Drops

Entries are due January 17 at 5 pm. Drops/Adds after Friday, January 19 at 5 pm will be charged the entry fee plus an additional $10.00 drop fee. You are welcome to use the online drop/add reporting at SpeechEase.com after you have submitted your final registration. Please let us know as soon as possible when you have drops or changes. Please text or email if you’re running late or have drops or changes.

Concessions

There will be a judge’s lounge provided for coaches and judges. Concessions and lunch will be sold to the competitors. Since this is a fundraiser, please support us by staying on campus during lunch.

Awards

We will give Sweepstakes awards for the top 3 large schools and top 3 small schools. There will also be individual awards for the top 6 speakers.

Weather

If inclement weather should cause cancellation of the tournament, we, along with our principal, will make that determination by 6:00 AM on the day of the tournament. If your school has confirmed its entry and decides not to attend and the tournament is held, your school is still responsible for all fees and judges.
